Traumatic Birth Recovery 3-Step Rewind
Are you finding it difficult to move past a traumatic birth experience?
Sometimes, the experience of childbirth can leave us with intense emotions that are hard to process. Research shows that around 30% of women who give birth experience trauma symptoms, even if they don’t immediately recognize or report them.
It’s important to understand that birth trauma is not a mental health disorder. It’s a natural response to a deeply distressing and often unexpected situation. For many women and their partners, childbirth doesn’t go as planned, leaving them with overwhelming feelings. For some, the birth deviates from their expectations entirely, with unforeseen complications or emergencies. Others may struggle with the disappointment of a difficult breastfeeding journey or the feeling of being ignored or mistreated by medical staff.
What truly matters is how you perceive your experience and how you feel about it now, even if the birth itself appeared to go as “planned.”

The Impact of Birth Trauma
After experiencing birth trauma, it’s common to feel “stuck” in that moment, which can have a lasting impact on your emotional wellbeing. These feelings can affect your relationships with loved ones and may erode your confidence or self-worth.
If you are ready to heal and move forward, I can help.
Introducing the Traumatic Birth Recovery – 3-Step Rewind Process
The 3-Step Rewind is a gentle and effective approach designed to help you release the difficult emotions associated with your traumatic birth experience. This process helps you acknowledge the impact that trauma has had on your life and allows you to find a path forward toward peace and emotional wellbeing.
This technique involves brief intervention, typically requiring 2 to 3 face-to-face or Zoom sessions. In most cases, clients experience a significant reduction or complete elimination of trauma-related symptoms after these sessions.
If the thought of discussing your birth experience makes you uncomfortable, there is no need to recount the details. You will be guided to recall the event in a way that doesn’t require verbalizing the specifics.
How It Works
Step 1: Pre-Work (60 mins)
The first step is getting to know each other and discussing your feelings about your birth experience and its current impact on your life. During this session, we’ll also address what you hope to feel and experience moving forward. Importantly, you don’t need to go into detail about what happened during your birth if it feels too upsetting, but it’s important to share how you feel about it.
We’ll also practice a guided relaxation session to help you feel at ease, supporting you as we move toward the next step. You’ll receive an MP3 relaxation track to use at home.
Step 2: The Rewind (90 mins)
Around a week after the first session, we’ll dive deeper into the Rewind process. We’ll begin by reviewing how you’re feeling after the initial session. Then, you’ll be guided into a state of deep relaxation, which is a key part of the process. Through visualization techniques, I’ll help you “rewind” the memory of the traumatic birth, separating the negative emotions tied to it while helping you feel safe and secure.
This process offers an opportunity to reprogram the way you think and feel about the event, allowing you to imagine coping better in future situations.
Step 3: The Review (30-45 mins)
This final session takes place 10 to 14 days after the second session. We’ll revisit how you’re feeling and explore any positive changes since the last session. If necessary, we can focus on additional work, but you’ll likely find that the painful emotions associated with the birth experience have significantly diminished or disappeared.
Sessions are available via zoom or in person. You will need to ensure you are child-free and totally undisturbed for each of the sessions.

Birth Debrief
Following childbirth some people may feel that they have been left with many unanswered questions, which have left them feeling like they may need to speak to someone. For many, there is a need to have their feelings validated and understood.
During this session, I encourage women to discuss what happened during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum periods and explain clinical events in detail. This debrief session can last between 1-2 hours and is a great opportunity to gain clarity and closure.
This debrief can also serve as an opportunity to discuss birth preferences for a subsequent birth following previous birth. There is no need for you to have your notes, however, if you do have them and would like for us to go through them then that is more than welcome.
The benefits of a birth debrief
Those who have had the opportunity to discuss their birth at length and with a trained professional often come away feeling 'empowered', with a better understanding of events.
They feel reassured and to some extent believed. In these cases, a birth debrief can help relieve or reduce the chances of experiencing symptoms of postnatal depression.
The debrief serves as opportunity to be heard and for your questions to be answered impartially.
Your partner or the person who was with during the birth is more than welcome to also attend
